Twitter launches privacy centre
Twitter announced their new privacy centre, where information about Twitter’s data privacy initiatives will be made available to partners and the general public, all in one place.
The privacy centre is split into two sections – one for users and one for partners. The user section directs users to privacy policies, terms, account settings, service providers and more.
The partner section includes dedicated pages for the GDPR, CCPA and Twitter’s Global Data Processing Agreement.
Senator Blackburn says American’s are ‘absolutely appalled’ by the lack of a federal privacy law
As both Republican and Democrat lawmakers discuss the need for a federal data privacy law on Wednesday, Senator Blackburn commented that:
“I think people are absolutely appalled that we have gone on this long without a federal privacy standard. It was six years ago that we started the Privacy Working Group in the House, and to think that it has taken this long to move to this direction is really surprising.”
Whilst bipartisan support still seems unlikely in the near future, it is thought that any proposed law would follow the lead of the GDPR and CCPA.
Data leak of 1.2billion records found on the dark web
Two security researchers, Bob Diachenko and Vinny Troia, have uncovered a huge database on the dark web holding 1.2billiion records, with information including email address, Facebook IDs, LinkedIn IDs and phone numbers. This is all data publicly available on the web, so doesn’t necessarily point to a data breach.
The datasets can be traced back to two data enrichment companies, People Data Labs (PDL) and Oxydata.io. Both firms deny having experienced a data breach.
